Retailers Ride Sales Boom as Shoppers Step up Spending
Sales of Seeds, Potting Mix, Gardening Supplies have doubled. Consumers stuck at home are also treating themselves to Gourmet Goods, boosting sales of Maggie Beer products, which include fruit paste, pate and speciality cheeses, by 28.6 per cent and lifting total sales by 20 per cent. The sales boom triggered by the pandemic is likely to last longer than initially expected as consumers spend rather than save government cash handouts and redirect to retail stores some of the $50 billion to $60 billion they would have otherwise spent on overseas travel.
